Abu Obaidah was born in 11th of february 1985 on enemy occupied Gaza City, his family lived in Ashkelon up until they were expelled by zionist militias in the 1948 palestine war.
He was appointed spokesman of the Al-Qassam Brigades in 2005. He made his first public appearance 2006, announcing capture of enemy soldier Gilad Shalit by resistance forces who was released after five years for 1,027 Palestinian prisoners.
He is known as Abu Ubaida, after Abu Ubaida Amir ibn al-Jarrah, the companion of the Prophet Muhammad who conquered Jerusalem during the reign of Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab. His life and identity however remain fully unkown, for privacy reasons.

Work
Abu Obaidah has been working as the spokesman of Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas since 2005 and is one of the most infamous figures of the resistance, a central figure of hamas’s media campaign he terrorizes the occupation’s false rhetoric and stands as a symbol of dedication to the palestinian cause. Abu Obaidah is considered the main artery of Islamic Resistance Movement and its companians’ media and psychological campaign, which focuses on debunking the false rhetoric and allegions.
In 2014, at the behest of the Shin Bet, Hebrew media outlets published a photo they claimed was of Abu Ubaida. They said it was taken from Al-Aqsa TV. The photo shows Abu Ubaida’s masked face, and below it is another image of a bearded man. His name is written “Hudhayfah Samir Abdullah al-Kahlout.”
Hamas denied these Israeli allegations, asserting that the photo was fabricated and indicating that its purpose was to attempt to obtain any real information about the identity of the Brigades’ spokesman, who is actually a prominent leader in Hamas’s armed wing.
He usually concludes his speech with the Qassam Brigades’ famous phrase, “It is a jihad of victory or martyrdom,” taken from the martyr Izz ad-Din al-Qassam shortly before his martyrdom in the Battle of Ya’bad in 1935.
Abu Ubaida’s media debut was in an old program filmed by Al Jazeera in 2005, but delayed until 2014. The program, titled “The Qassam Brigades as Guests of Venice for the First Time,” featured him wearing his mask at the beginning of his career, before becoming a well-known figure throughout the Arab world.
Abu Ubaida’s public profile began in June 2006, when he announced the success of the resistance in carrying out Operation “The Disappearing Illusion,” which resulted in the killing of two Israeli soldiers, the wounding of two others, and the capture of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.
His rare statements have a significant impact on both Palestinian and Israeli circles and often receive extensive media coverage. Abu Obeida’s fame increased in June 2020 when Israel wanted to fully annex the Occupied West Bank and Jordan Valley. He appeared in a recorded video which coincided with the anniversary of Operation Dispelled Illusion, emphasizing that “the resistance will make the enemy bite its fingers in regret over this sinful decision, God willing,” describing the Israeli plans as a “declaration of war.”
During the Battle of Sword of Jerusalem in May 2021, mentioning Abu Obeida’s name in the media signaled the occurrence of a major event, particularly in terms of a military achievement by the resistance.
A number of analysts and those interested in Palestinian/Israeli affairs believe that Abu Obeida’s speeches and statements are highly credible and reliable, especially since he announces losses among both Israeli forces and resistance factions, without exaggerating one side or diminishing the other. Israeli military correspondent Gili Cohen announced that the Israeli public trusts the statements of the Qassam Brigades spokesman more than official Israeli occupation’s spokesmen.

Abu Ubaidah gained widespread fame, with everyone anticipating his speeches, which became a staple ritual in Arab countries. He developed a clear emotional connection with the figure, becoming a well-known icon, beginning with the Battle of the Sword of Jerusalem in 2021 and then during Operation Flood of Al-Aqsa on October 7, 2023. In Egypt, popular songs were composed for Abu Ubaidah, sung by the general public.
In Jordan, young and old alike stopped to listen to his speeches, and mosques broadcast his words over loudspeakers. In the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon, his name was included in school exam questions, and a picture bearing the words “Spokesman of the Nation” was circulated on the streets of Beirut. Meanwhile, children in Algeria competed to play his role in their plays and games. Even in Turkey, imitating Abu Ubaidah became a children’s game, with his pictures hanging in some cafes.
Abu Obaidah is also known to contain satirical messages in his speeches, known to taunt the occupation and its army.
After the start of Al-Aqsa Flood operation in october 7th, 2023 he stated:
“Plant terror and nightmares in the ranks of the occupation, the paper tiger that has been manning our people for years. Here it is, collapsing before you. Contribute to the honor of bringing it to its knees.”
“Oh people of the West Bank, oh detonators of the revolution, and people of Jerusalem and the interior, today is your opportunity from all axes, and you must move now to all places where the occupation is present”
While the occupation announced its plans to launch a major operation in Gaza City he stated:
“The enemy’s criminal plans to occupy Gaza will be a disaster for its political and military leadership, and the enemy army will pay the price with the blood of its soldiers. It will increase the chances of capturing new soldiers, God willing.”
“Our Mujahideen are in a state of alert, readiness and high morale. They will present unique examples of heroism and bravery and will teach the invaders harsh lessons, God willing”
“War criminal Netanyahu and his Nazi ministers have determined to halve the number of living enemy prisoners and to make most of the bodies of their dead prisoners disappear forever, for which the enemy army and its terrorist government will bear full responsibility.”
“We will preserve the enemy’s prisoners as much as we can, and they will be with our fighters in the places of fighting and confrontation under the same risky and living conditions. We will announce every prisoner killed by the aggression with his name, photo, and proof of his death.”
