On April 22nd, the Kashmir based separatist organisation named “The Resistance Front” carried out an attack killing 26, now India may soon invade Pakistan
The Attack
The attack in the Kashmiri city of Pahalgam was carried out by 5 gunmen, injuring 20 and killing 26:
- 24 Hindus
- 1 Christian
- 1 Muslim local who tried to stop the attackers
The TRF were quick to take credit, but a few days later denied the attack was them. The stated reason for the attack was a recent law passed by the Indian government, allowing for Indians from other states to move to Kashmir to live and work. The TRF claims this was an attempt to settle the region with more Hindus to oppress the Muslims and essentially colonise the land. The Pakistani government offered India a fully neutral investigation into the attack, but were refused. The TRF is alleged to have links to a Pakistani AQ affiliate named Lashkar-e-Taiba who share the goal of Pakistani control of Kashmir.
The immediate Indian response
Shortly after the attack, India accused Pakistan of having some role in it. They then dissolved the Indus water treaty, cutting of water from three key rivers which Pakistan depend on for their water supply, This could potentially warrant Pakistani military action against India. There were also false reports that China would respond by cutting off water to India, whilst this was a fabrication China has affirmed its support for Pakistan saying it would respond if India invaded and selling Pakistan 6th gen fighter jets.
Other restrictions
The two countries have also placed a series of restrictions on each other:
- Border crossing closed
- Airports closed to each others airlines
- Ships bearing each others flags not allowed to dock
- India revokes visas for almost all Pakistani citizens, which has separated many families
- Trade between the two countries halted
- India censors Pakistani social media acounts
War is iminant
The Pakistani government has made several claims that India is about to invade. Either they are just guessing or they have genuine evidence but India alters their plans when Pakistan makes statements saying they will invade. Alongside this, both countries are amassing troops along the border, with several clashes having already broken out which, according to India, have caused several Pakistani casualties. India also made a statement to the UN saying they would punish the attackers and those who backed them.
And war has now come, on 6th May India has launched missiles into Pakistani Kashmir.
